“Serena Williams Seeks Wimbledon Wild Card for Doubles Comeback”

Must read

Serena Williams has applied for a wild card entry in the doubles category at Queen’s Club alongside 19-year-old Canadian player Victoria Mboko. This move marks a potential return to the tennis scene for the legendary player, who last competed four years ago after securing an impressive tally of 23 Grand Slam titles.

After rejoining the anti-doping testing system last August and completing the mandatory six-month period, Williams is now eligible to participate in tournaments. Reports suggest that she has sought a wild card for the upcoming Wimbledon warm-up event.

Although Serena Williams currently seems focused on doubles, former tennis star Andy Roddick believes she will eventually compete in singles at Wimbledon. Roddick sees the prestigious tournament as her best chance to relive past triumphs.

During a recent podcast, Roddick expressed his belief that Williams’ re-entry into anti-doping protocols indicates a strong desire to make a comeback. He highlighted her physical condition and speculated that Wimbledon, particularly on grass, presents an ideal setting for her return to competitive tennis.

While Williams’ initial intention may involve doubles matches, Roddick anticipates that she will also participate in singles events. He suggested that the possibility of teaming up with her sister Venus for one last campaign, possibly at the US Open, could be a motivating factor.

Following an emotional farewell at the US Open in 2022, Serena Williams shared her struggle with retiring from the sport. In a piece for Vogue, she expressed mixed feelings about ending her career, acknowledging the difficulty of transitioning to new endeavors while still harboring a passion for tennis.
