Sky Q, known as a top-tier set-top box, has garnered acclaim for its live TV recording capabilities and access to premium channels, on-demand content, and popular streaming apps like Disney+ and Netflix. Despite its strong following, Sky is shifting focus from its satellite-based platform to internet-driven products such as the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV. This move paves the way for potential competition in the market for those who prefer physical recordings.
Humax recently unveiled the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, a device that echoes many features of the Sky Q box. Similar to Sky’s flagship offering, the Aura EZ comes equipped with a built-in 2TB hard drive to store extensive TV shows, movies, and sports content. In a landscape where physical recording options are dwindling, a device with internal storage like this stands out.
Beyond traditional aerial recordings, the Aura EZ leverages Freely technology, enabling users to watch live TV via broadband. Developed by the Freeview team, Freely offers over 60 live channels and an extensive library of on-demand programs. This setup allows for easy portability, simple installation, and regular feature updates.
Noteworthy features of the Aura EZ include 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio, and an integrated TV guide showcasing current and upcoming programs. Users can also manage the box remotely through the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app, allowing for schedule browsing and recording management from anywhere.
While Freely lacks Sky’s premium sports and movie offerings, it stands out for being free to use without any subscription fees.
The Humax Aura EZ is scheduled to launch in the UK in February 2026, priced at £249.
