Virgin Media is set to upgrade its broadband customers’ home routers for improved performance. The company will be offering a free upgrade to users still using the older Hub 3 and Hub 4 devices, moving them to the more advanced Hub 5. This new router features Wi-Fi 6 technology, providing faster and more reliable connections.
Eligible customers will be notified via email in the coming weeks and months as the rollout progresses through 2026. Virgin Media highlighted that the Hub 5 comes with Wi-Fi 6 technology and seven internal antennas to enhance coverage within homes, ensuring stronger and more consistent connectivity.
Virgin Media will directly contact qualifying customers for the upgrade, eliminating the need for them to take any immediate action. Users can also check their eligibility by logging into their My Virgin Media account online.
Upgrading to the Hub 5 router can significantly enhance the broadband experience, offering wider Wi-Fi coverage, improved stability, and support for future updates. The new router is designed to handle faster Gig1 speeds, enabling quicker downloads and streaming. Gig1 speeds allow users to download a full HD movie in under 40 seconds, more than ten times faster than the UK average.
Wi-Fi 6 is the latest wireless networking technology, providing faster speeds, increased efficiency, and better performance in busy environments. It can accommodate more connected devices simultaneously, delivering superior performance across both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Additionally, Wi-Fi 6 is energy-efficient, making it ideal for modern smart homes with multiple connected devices and high data demands. While Wi-Fi 7 technology is available, Wi-Fi 6 is well-suited for the average user.
