“O2 Boosts UK Network with 5G+ Upgrade”

Must read

O2 has officially announced a widespread complimentary upgrade for millions of its users, introducing faster 5G+ connectivity throughout the UK. This enhancement delivers improved mobile network coverage and significantly quicker download speeds, with users expected to experience a 50% increase compared to the previous 4G technology.

Beyond speed and reliability improvements, the upgrade also brings the added benefit of extended battery life. This is due to devices consuming less power by no longer needing to connect simultaneously to both 4G and 5G networks, unlike older standard 5G setups that rely on 4G support.

The rollout of this upgrade is in progress for users with 5G+ compatible devices and SIM cards, now active in over 700 towns and cities across the country.

Christian Hindennach, the Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Media O2, emphasized that the 5G+ service is now accessible to millions of customers nationwide. He highlighted the service’s unique availability to all O2 users on any plan, unlike other networks. This upgrade is specifically designed to enhance performance in high-traffic areas, including major venues, benefiting both residents and visitors and showcasing Virgin Media O2’s commitment to network enhancement and reliability. The company is investing £2 million daily to prepare customers for upcoming mobile innovations.

To check local availability, users can utilize O2’s postcode checker tool. Notable 5G+ compatible devices include the iPhone 15, iPhone 16 (including 16e), iPhone 17, Google Pixel 9 series (including Fold), and Google Pixel 10 series (including Fold).

5G+ technology represents an advanced iteration of 5G networks, leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as higher-frequency spectrum, improved antennas, and network optimization to offer faster speeds, reduced latency, and increased capacity.
