Samsung TV owners in the UK are set to receive a significant upgrade, providing additional free content for their viewing pleasure. UKTV has announced that its popular free-to-air linear channels will soon be accessible on Samsung screens, allowing UK viewers to enjoy these channels without the need for extra devices.
The channels will be delivered via the internet, eliminating the requirement for a traditional aerial connection. Samsung will also introduce a dedicated section on its home screen to showcase content from the U streaming service, making it easier for viewers to discover and watch classic comedies, dramas, and factual shows without navigating through menus.
In the upcoming months, channels such as U&DRAMA, U&Dave, U&Yesterday, U&W, and U&Eden will be directly accessible through Samsung’s Universal Guide, enhancing the user experience. Samsung estimates that this rollout will reach millions of its TVs, ensuring that UKTV’s live and on-demand content remains prominently featured for viewers relying on internet-based TV services.
Jonathan Newman, General Manager of Commercial at UKTV and BBC Studios UK and Ireland, expressed enthusiasm for the strengthened partnership with Samsung, emphasizing the improved accessibility of the U app to Samsung customers and the enhanced visibility of UKTV’s diverse content.
Dan Harvie, Vice President of Home Entertainment and Appliances at Samsung UK and Ireland, highlighted the essential role of UKTV in enriching the entertainment offerings on Samsung TVs. He emphasized Samsung’s commitment to enhancing the entertainment experience by providing access to a broad range of broadcast content through partnerships like the one with UKTV.
