A search is underway following the disturbing find of a decapitated young boy’s head inside a backpack at Golyanovsky Pond in Moscow. Reports indicate that the child was strangled before being beheaded, as per law enforcement sources.

The preliminary cause of death for the unidentified boy is believed to be asphyxia. Evidence of forced strangulation was found on the child’s neck with marks and bruises, according to Russian site Baza. The victim, estimated to be between seven and 10 years old, is thought to have been killed around two days ago.

Despite an extensive search involving divers, no additional remains were discovered in the lake. The backpack containing the severed head was found in a red plastic bag.
