Vodafone has introduced a new method for internet access, utilizing a 5G mobile signal instead of traditional copper or fiber cables. The latest Wi-Fi router from the company enables users to download files and stream movies over this high-speed network.
This innovation caters to households that lack access to faster full fiber connections or individuals seeking more flexibility. The portable nature of the device allows for easy relocation, making it particularly suitable for renters and students who frequently change living spaces.
One key benefit of this new system is its straightforward installation process. Powered by Vodafone’s network, users can simply plug the router into a power source, turn it on, and immediately connect to the internet without requiring a technician to visit or perform any wall drilling.
It’s important to note that this 5G router offers speeds of up to 150Mbps, which is sufficient for activities like streaming Netflix, sending emails, and working from home. However, it falls short of the speeds provided by full fiber connections, which can exceed 900Mbps.
For perspective, downloading a full HD movie using the 5G router takes approximately 8 minutes, whereas it would only take 40 seconds with a gigabit fiber connection. To aid consumers in selecting the most suitable option, Vodafone has launched an integrated availability checker on their website, allowing users to input their postcode and determine whether full fiber or 5G Broadband offers the fastest speeds in their area.
Vodafone previously offered web access through its GigaCube device, which has now been replaced by this new router model. Rob Winterschladen, Consumer Director at VodafoneThree, emphasized the significance of providing households with a faster and more reliable broadband alternative through Vodafone 5G Broadband, aiming to reach a wider consumer base.
Additionally, it should be noted that Three, now part of Vodafone, also provides a similar service. Vodafone’s pricing for these plans starts at £21 per month, while Three’s home broadband is currently available at £11 for the initial nine months.
