“ABTA Addresses Fuel Concerns: Travel Plans Secure”

Must read

A UK trade association representing travel agents, tour operators, and the broader travel industry has released a statement addressing concerns about fuel supplies and potential trip cancellations.

As the May half-term approaches, a peak period for travel alongside summer holidays and Christmas, many travelers with upcoming plans are uncertain due to reports of jet fuel shortages. While some airlines have offered assurances to customers, others have remained silent on the issue.

ABTA, which represents more than 3,500 tour operators and travel agents in the UK, has issued guidance for Britons planning vacations during the school holidays and in the coming months.

Mark Tanzer, ABTA’s chief executive, emphasized that there is no need for holiday-goers to worry as flights are operating daily and vacations are proceeding as scheduled. He stated that both the government and airlines have confirmed no fuel supply issues, reassuring travelers that their upcoming trips, including those during the May half-term, should proceed as planned.

ABTA has provided information on jet fuel prices and availability on their website, ensuring travelers that in case of flight cancellations, protections are in place to safeguard their payments. They recommend travelers to have adequate travel insurance coverage.

Several airlines have also reassured customers about the continuity of their services. Garry Wilson, CEO of easyJet holidays, confirmed that operations are unaffected, ensuring no additional costs for customers. Meanwhile, Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary expressed confidence in the supply chain stability, highlighting reduced risks of disruptions until the end of June, although he noted potential challenges for the UK due to oil imports from Kuwait.
