Turkish Airlines Cancels 18 International Routes

Must read

A leading European airline operating in the UK has decided to cancel flights to 18 destinations starting next month. Turkish Airlines has revealed plans to halt 18 international routes affecting travel across Europe, Africa, Central Asia, and the Middle East. These changes will disrupt travel plans between May and June 2026.

The adjustments to Turkish Airlines’ summer 2026 schedule could impact flights from Istanbul Airport (IST), a popular hub for British travelers. The airline serves various UK cities like London Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Manchester, Birmingham, and Edinburgh.

This strategic review by the airline focuses on routes experiencing decreased demand, particularly for lesser-known destinations. The suspended destinations include Juba, Kinshasa, Luanda, Lusaka, Aqaba, Billund, Bissau, Ferghana, Freetown, Havana, Hurghada, Kirkuk, Leipzig/Halle, Libreville, Monrovia, Najaf, Pointe Noire, and Turkistan.

While the routes will be suspended between May and June 2026, some may not resume until late October 2026 or even as late as March the following year. However, Turkish Airlines reassures travelers with bookings to Istanbul that their high-demand routes remain a priority.

The suspension of these lesser-known destinations may impact tourism in those countries and limit exploration opportunities for travelers seeking new experiences. Additionally, Turkish Airlines continues to suspend routes to Iranian cities like Isfahan, Mashhad, Shiraz, and Tabriz until the end of October 2026 due to ongoing Middle East conflicts.

In a recent development, the airline expanded its UK network by adding London Stansted as its third London gateway in March. This expansion aims to provide Brits with access to over 350 destinations across 133 countries, with the UK and Ireland expected to operate a weekly flight schedule of 168 during the summer.

Turkish Airlines’ Vice President Sales (Middle and Northern Europe), Fuat Fırat, emphasized the significance of the UK market for the airline. The addition of London Stansted flights enhances connectivity and offers guests more flexibility to access the global network, benefiting commercial and tourism activities in the region.
