Two individuals lost their lives and multiple others sustained injuries in a fire incident at a popular destination among British tourists.

The tragic event occurred at a property in Mallorca, Spain, where nine individuals required treatment for smoke inhalation. According to a spokesperson from the Civil Guard, the fire started on the third floor of a residential building in the Magaluf area around 5am.

Despite efforts by residents to extinguish the fire, it quickly spread throughout the building, leading to the evacuation of over 12 people and visible smoke for miles. The flames were eventually put out two hours later. The nationalities of the victims remain unknown, and authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.

Magaluf, situated approximately 14 miles from Palma de Mallorca, is renowned for its beaches and nightlife, attracting many British visitors. The fire took place at the Edificio Trianón on C/ Federico García Lorca near Punta Ballena, engulfing the entire building in smoke as residents struggled to escape.

Local officials reported that residents and firefighters attempted to contain the blaze without success, resulting in its rapid spread to upper floors. Calvià Mayor Juan Antonio Amengual expressed deep sadness over the incident, noting the severity of the fire and the challenges faced by emergency responders.

Amengual highlighted the complex nature of the situation, citing the location of the affected flat and the actions of individuals fleeing to the stairwell instead of staying in their apartments as contributing factors to the tragic outcomes. He emphasized the gravity of the incident and the critical condition of a third individual hospitalized with hopes for recovery.
