The top zoo in the UK has been announced just in time for the upcoming summer break. Zoos have always been a popular choice for family outings, providing opportunities to observe a diverse range of animals up close and participate in unique experiences. With over 300 licensed zoos, safari parks, and aquariums across the UK, the focus remains on animal welfare, education, research, and safeguarding endangered species.

One particular zoo has captured significant attention for its vast size and diverse animal population. Covering an expansive 130 acres and housing over 30,000 animals, including more than 500 endangered species, it stands out as one of the largest zoos in the UK.

Chester Zoo has been officially recognized as the best zoo in the UK by Tripadvisor due to its consistently positive reviews from millions of visitors. Situated in Upton-by-Chester, Cheshire, this conservation zoo received an impressive 11,666 ‘excellent’ ratings and was ranked among Europe’s top 10 zoos and aquariums for 2026.

Apart from offering an enjoyable day out, Chester Zoo is a prominent conservation and education charity devoted to preventing animal extinction. Among its protected species are the Sumatran orangutan, Sumatran tiger, Jaguars, Greater one-horned rhino, Sun bear, warthog, and Okapi.

In addition to the fascinating animal exhibits, visitors can explore gardens, play areas, various dining options, including a pub and restaurant on-site, and experience virtual reality. With millions of visitors annually, Chester Zoo receives acclaim for its conservation initiatives.

Visitors have shared their positive experiences, praising Chester Zoo for its conservation focus and friendly staff. The zoo’s recent expansion introduced the largest UK zoo habitat, Heart of Africa, spanning 2.5 acres and housing 57 African species.

Last year, Chester Zoo unveiled The Reserve, its new hotel featuring 51 luxury African-themed lodges, offering a unique UK safari experience. Every visit to Chester Zoo contributes to funding its conservation work, which includes groundbreaking initiatives such as developing a vaccine for a deadly virus threatening Asian elephants.

Expressing gratitude for the recognition, Jamie Christon, CEO of Chester Zoo, highlighted the essential role of visitors in supporting conservation efforts, emphasizing the impact of their contributions on wildlife preservation globally.
