On the 82nd anniversary of the D-Day landings, former US President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform to highlight achievements during his administration. Trump praised the work done at the Lincoln Memorial, expressing gratitude to himself and the Department of the Interior for restoring the reflecting pool with “clean, beautiful water.”
In his posts, Trump also revealed plans for a new “Trump Promenade” at the historic site, claiming it will become a significant structure in Washington, alongside the White House Ballroom. Accompanying the announcement were AI-generated memes and videos featuring Trump in various scenarios, such as riding a lion, planting the American flag on the Moon, and dancing in front of the White House.
Among the images shared was one depicting Trump as the towering Washington Monument above the reflecting pool, holding an American flag with a smile. Additionally, a video clip showcased an AI version of Trump seemingly filling the pool with tears from a crying figure, referencing a viral video from Trump’s first inauguration.
Meanwhile, members of Trump’s administration used the D-Day commemorations to criticize immigration policies in Europe. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth condemned European nations for allowing what he described as an “invasion” of “dangerous ideologies” during his speech in Normandy, contrasting the current situation with the historic efforts to liberate Nazi-occupied Europe.
He emphasized concerns about various European beaches being “stormed by different dangerous ideologies,” pointing to Spain, Italy, Greece, and Bulgaria, where he mentioned the arrival of boats and men. Hegseth questioned when European capitals would address this perceived invasion.
