Locals in central Stockholm were shocked by a bus accident that resulted in multiple casualties. The incident occurred when a bus crashed into a bus stop in Östermalm during the afternoon, causing a loud bang and sudden screams. Police responded to the scene at around 3:24pm local time after receiving reports of the crash.
Law enforcement quickly arrived in the area, deploying numerous police vehicles and ambulances to assist the injured. Tragically, several individuals lost their lives in the accident, with emergency services working diligently to aid the victims.
Eyewitnesses recounted the chaotic scene, with one resident describing hearing a loud noise and witnessing people in distress. Another witness, Michelle Mac Key, noted the bus collision and the ensuing pandemonium. She expressed feeling unsettled by the event and observed authorities questioning bystanders.
Authorities confirmed several injuries and fatalities, stating that five individuals were hurt, including two with severe injuries who were taken to the hospital. Notably, there were no passengers on the bus at the time of the incident, as it was out of service. The bus driver was arrested on suspicion of aggravated manslaughter, although the incident was not deemed a terrorist act.
