The incident took place at the intersection of 79th Street and Troost Avenue around 4 am local time on Saturday, prompting a police response following reports of gunshots. The shooting occurred within a five-mile radius of England’s training camp at Swope Soccer Village, with no reported life-threatening injuries among the victims.
According to Kansas City Police Department Captain Jake Becchina, law enforcement officers arrived at the scene to find a large crowd dispersing. Three women were transported to a hospital for treatment, while six other adults sought medical attention at nearby hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests have been made as the police continue their investigations in the area.
Meanwhile, England’s players and staff were situated in Palm Beach, Florida, at the time, focusing on their World Cup preparations. The team is scheduled to relocate to their Kansas City base on Saturday before commencing their World Cup campaign against Croatia on June 17, followed by matches against Ghana and Panama in Group L.
Officer Alayna Gonzalez of the Kansas City Police Department emphasized that the shooting incident did not have any connection to a World Cup venue or activities related to England’s training camp.
