Vladimir Putin received a stark assessment from a high-ranking US general regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Retired four-star General Jack Keane highlighted Russia’s recent military actions as a failure, leading to territorial losses beyond their capacity to recover. This shift has put Ukraine on the offensive, reclaiming lost ground according to the former Vice Chief of Staff of the US Army, now serving as the chairman of the Institute for the Study of War.
In a separate development, Aleksey Chadaev, a former Kremlin adviser and head of the Ushkuynik drone-warfare center, cautioned that Putin’s strategy could result in a significant defeat. He suggested that Russia should consider a ceasefire to regroup effectively. Russian war correspondent Anastasia Kashevarova also expressed concerns about the escalating situation, noting increased attacks on Russian forces.
Despite mounting challenges, Putin remains reluctant to engage in peace talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. In response, Ukraine launched fresh strikes on Russian targets, including the Semikolodezyanskaya oil depot in Lenino, Crimea. The ongoing conflict has led to petrol shortages in the region, forcing residents to ration fuel and travel to the Russian mainland for supplies.
Further exacerbating the situation, Ukrainian drones targeted critical infrastructure in occupied territories, setting off fires and disrupting essential services. Recent attacks on St. Petersburg and other regions have led to casualties on both sides, with reports of fatalities and injuries in various locations.
Zelensky is scheduled to meet with UK opposition leader Keir Starmer and the leaders of France and Germany in London to discuss the escalating crisis. The conflict shows no signs of abating, with both sides facing mounting challenges and casualties.
