Millions of Gmail users will soon have the option to change their email address to a brand-new one. Google had previously hinted at this update, and it is now being implemented worldwide. In a recent update on the Gmail blog page, Google confirmed that users can change their Google Account email address ending in gmail.com to a new address with the same domain.
This change could be beneficial for users who no longer prefer their current email address or have had changes in their circumstances. However, Google has emphasized an important point regarding this feature’s availability.
The ability to change the Google Account email address is gradually being rolled out to all users, and some users may not have access to this option yet, as stated by the US technology giant.
The new system will allow both the old and new email addresses to coexist, ensuring that any emails sent to the current Gmail address will be automatically forwarded to the new one. Google assures users that all their account data, including photos, messages, and emails linked to the original address, will remain unaffected.
To check if you can switch to a new Gmail address without losing your emails, follow these steps:
– Visit myaccount.google.com/google-account-email on your computer and sign in if required.
– Click on Personal info in the top-left corner.
– Select Email, then Google Account email.
– Under “Google Account email,” click on Change Google Account email.
– If the option is not available, it may not be accessible to you yet.
– Enter the new username you wish to use, ensuring it is not currently in use or previously used and deleted.
– Click on Change email, then confirm by selecting Yes, change email.
– Follow the on-screen instructions.
Upon completion, your new Gmail address will become your primary account email, while the old address will serve as an alternate email option.
