Geoff Burrow, the father of the late rugby league icon Rob Burrow, has sadly passed away, as confirmed recently. Geoff played a significant role in the notable campaign to raise awareness and funds initiated after Rob’s diagnosis with motor neurone disease.
In an official statement, Leeds Rhinos expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Geoff Burrow on Monday, March 30th. Describing Geoff as a relentless advocate for the MND community since Rob’s diagnosis in December 2019, the club highlighted his dedication even after Rob’s demise in June 2024.
Born in Leeds, Geoff was an unwavering supporter of MND causes, accompanying Rob to his inaugural match at Headingley, sparking Rob’s passion for the Rhinos. Throughout his career as a trade union representative, Geoff championed the voiceless. The club extended heartfelt condolences to Geoff’s wife Irene and the entire Burrow family, urging privacy during this difficult time and wishing Geoff eternal peace.
Rob Burrow, a revered figure at Leeds, faced an MND diagnosis in late 2019 and eventually passed away in June 2024. Supported by his family and former teammate Kevin Sinfield, Rob tirelessly advocated for MND awareness. Their efforts led to the establishment of the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease at Seacroft Hospital in Leeds. Geoff expressed gratitude for the community’s fundraising efforts, emphasizing the center’s importance for MND patients, families, and dedicated staff.
