Oliver Bearman was visibly distressed after a high-speed collision during the Japanese Grand Prix. The British racer urgently signaled for assistance from the race marshals after his Formula 1 car spun out of control and crashed into a barrier.
Following the incident, two marshals helped Bearman walk, but he appeared to be in significant pain. He was limping noticeably and later collapsed behind the barrier, clutching his right lower leg and ankle, prompting the arrival of the medical car for assistance.
Bearman was swiftly taken to the circuit medical center for further evaluation. A representative from Haas later confirmed that X-rays showed no fractures, only a bruise on his right knee.
The crash led to a delay in the Grand Prix as the damaged Haas car was retrieved and repairs were made to the barrier it struck. Racing resumed on lap 28 with Kimi Antonelli in the lead after benefiting from the timing of the safety car, with George Russell in pursuit.
Antonelli maintained his lead after the restart, with Oscar Piastri in second place. Lewis Hamilton’s aggressive driving further challenged Russell and allowed Antonelli to extend his lead.
Russell expressed frustration over the team radio about his misfortune with timing during pit stops. Meanwhile, Antonelli, who initially struggled at the start, regained the lead after the safety car period.
Despite ongoing challenges, Piastri held on to second place ahead of Hamilton. Lando Norris and Max Verstappen faced difficulties advancing in the race, with Verstappen struggling to overtake Pierre Gasly’s Alpine car.
