A man is facing murder charges following the discovery of a woman’s body inside a suitcase. Vanessa Sanchez, aged 37 and battling Stage 4 breast cancer, was found deceased in her Berkeley, California apartment after a wellness check was conducted by the property manager. Her remains were found inside a bin bag placed within a suitcase.
The tragic finding occurred shortly after reports indicated that Sanchez was last seen entering her apartment with Damarcus David Jones, who has now been accused of her murder. Surveillance footage captured Jones returning to the building with a large roller suitcase after being seen entering with Sanchez on May 24, which was the last day she was seen alive.
Jones, aged 28, was apprehended in Solano County, California, on June 2, and charged with murder. According to court documents referenced by NBC, Jones confessed to killing Sanchez and attempted to mask the odor in her apartment by ventilating and using an air purifier.
The untimely death of Sanchez, who had been courageously battling advanced breast cancer, deeply shocked her family.
