The family of a British man who passed away following dental and hair transplant procedures in Turkey has honored him as “the radiant smile that brought them warmth.”
Mentor Rama, aged 36, traveled to Istanbul for the treatments but fell ill upon returning to his hotel room. Emergency services were summoned, and Rama was swiftly taken to a nearby hospital where he later died on November 11.
Following this, his body was transferred to the Council of Forensic Medicine in Istanbul. Authorities have initiated an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his death.
A representative from the FCDO mentioned to The Mirror: “We are assisting the family of the deceased British man in Turkey and are coordinating with the local authorities.”
A heartfelt message shared on a relative’s public Facebook page expressed deep sorrow over Rama’s passing. The message conveyed the irreplaceable loss felt by his loved ones and the void left by his departure.
Rama’s body has been repatriated to the UK and handed over to his family, as reported by Turkish media. Turkey remains a popular destination for Britons seeking cost-effective cosmetic procedures, even though some have encountered unfortunate outcomes.
According to the Foreign Office, a minimum of 28 British citizens have died in Turkey following elective surgeries between March 2019 and March 2024. Turkish clinics are recognized for offering “medical tourism packages.”
Many individuals opt to travel to Turkey for dental treatments due to lower costs, with procedures like “Turkey teeth” typically priced 40 to 60 percent cheaper than in the UK. However, several dentists have cautioned against Britons seeking dental procedures in Turkey due to potential complications.
