Markham is gearing up for an adrenaline-fueled weekend as it hosts the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy, featuring the NTT IndyCar Series along with other motorsports events. This marks the first time the race will be held outside of Toronto, taking place on a brand-new track layout spanning 3.52 kilometers with 12 turns.
To make your way to the event, attendees are advised to utilize GO Transit, York Region Transit, or drive via Highway 407, with parking available west of the event grounds. Metrolinx is enhancing Stouffville Line services for convenient transportation to and from the track.
Additional trips are being added from Union Station to Unionville GO on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings, along with new trips in the afternoons and evenings. Enhanced York Region Transit services and shuttle services from designated parking lots to the event are also being provided.
Residents of Markham have been accustomed to the road closures due to track construction, such as limited parking at Unionville GO and closures on Enterprise Boulevard, Kennedy Road, YMCA Boulevard, University Boulevard, and South Unionville Boulevard, lasting until Monday morning, with some roads affected until August 27.
The main event, IndyCar, will feature top drivers, including points leader Alex Palou, a four-time series champion, and other contenders like Pato O’Ward, Kyle Kirkwood, David Malukas, Christian Lundgaard, and Rinus Veekay. Local talents like Anthony Martella and Chase Pelletier will also be showcasing their skills in support series races.
Drivers are gearing up for the unique Markham track, which offers a smooth surface unlike Toronto’s bumpy roads. The circuit presents challenges with elevation changes and tight sections, promising an exciting race for fans. Tickets for Saturday and Sunday can be purchased on the event website, while Friday’s practice and qualifying sessions are free to attend, with donations encouraged for Make-A-Wish Canada.
