Thurairajah and his team clinched this year’s Ig Nobel Physics Prize for their work on developing a urinal that prevents splashing.
When Thurairajah’s supervisor, fluid physicist Zhao Pan, shared the exciting news with him, Thurairajah was overjoyed. The team’s journey involved creating various urinal prototypes, such as the Nautilus and Cornucopia designs, with Nautilus proving to be the superior choice due to its reduced splash and easier cleaning process.
At the awards event in Zurich, Thurairajah and his colleagues sported bright yellow raincoats, prepared to bask in the recognition from their fellow eccentric scientists.
