The union representing WestJet cabin crew has disclosed the terms of the tentative agreement reached with the Calgary-based airline following a brief strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) revealed that the deal involves an increase of more than 18% in wages over a three-year period, along with a new “duty period premium” for ground work compensation. Additionally, the agreement includes enhancements in time off, as well as higher allowances for food and uniforms.
During the long holiday weekend, WestJet flights across a significant part of Canada were suspended as 4,400 flight attendants prepared to strike, which commenced early Sunday. However, a tentative agreement was reached between the air carrier and the union on Monday morning, leading to a gradual return to normal operations at WestJet.
The cabin crew members are scheduled to vote on the agreement in the upcoming weeks.
