Is Canada prepared to explore the concept of falling in love without seeing each other? If you’re single and intrigued, the opportunity to engage in blind love experiments is about to open on the Canadian side.
Netflix revealed on Tuesday that the popular reality dating series “Love is Blind,” which has been a success in the U.S., is making its way to Canada. In case you missed its debut in February 2020, here’s how the show operates.
A group of single individuals will enter pods where they will converse, flirt, build connections, date, and potentially develop romantic feelings for each other without the visual aspect. Yes, couples will get engaged while sitting on opposite sides of a wall without laying eyes on each other.
After the engagement phase, they will finally meet face to face, embark on an extravagant trip with their matches to test their chemistry, move in together, meet each other’s families, and ultimately make the crucial decision on their express wedding day – to either say “I do” or part ways.
If you’re eager to partake in this love experiment, casting is currently open for Canadians seeking love. Netflix announced the spinoff on Instagram, prompting immediate interest from individuals like Fernanda Estrada De La Rosa from Vancouver, who expressed enthusiasm for the show’s unique format.
The announcement of “Love is Blind Canada” coincides with Canadian adaptations of other reality shows. “Big Brother Canada” is set to return this summer, and “Canada Shore” has concluded its second season filming in Kelowna, B.C. Pop culture critic Katherine Singh notes that Canada is currently in the media spotlight, citing instances like the popularity of “Heated Rivalry” and public fascination with former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s link to Katy Perry.
Canadian TV producer Sean De Vries, known for his work on “The Bachelor Canada,” believes that the enthusiasm for “Love is Blind” necessitated a Canadian edition. He emphasizes that authenticity is crucial for the success of a dating show. The Canadian spinoff is being produced by Insight Productions, acclaimed for their work on “Big Brother Canada” and “Canada Shore.”
To qualify for participation, applicants must be at least 19 years old and either a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada as of January 2027. Since its inception, the U.S. version of “Love is Blind” has produced 10 seasons and spawned spinoffs in various countries worldwide. While the U.S. version is hosted by Vanessa and Nick Lachey, the Canadian host is yet to be revealed.
