Must read

A mother from the UK, who lost her husband and mother-in-law in the Air India Flight 171 crash nearly a year ago, expressed her anguish and quest for justice. The tragic incident claimed the lives of 53 British citizens among the 242 passengers aboard the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which crashed into a hostel just 32 seconds after takeoff on June 12, 2025. Concerns have been raised by the families of the victims regarding the lack of transparency in the investigation conducted by the Indian Air Accidents Investigation Branch.

Bhavika Patel, a 38-year-old mother of two who lost her husband and mother-in-law in the crash, spoke out about the devastating impact on her life. She emphasized the need for clarity on the events leading to the crash and the immediate aftermath. Bhavika, who used to run a shop in London with her husband, now finds herself managing the business and raising her children alone after the tragic loss. Despite receiving compensation, she expressed the financial challenges she faces in supporting her children’s education and the need for additional assistance.

The grieving mother also shared her struggles with her health and business following the incident. She highlighted the vital role her mother-in-law played in their family life and expressed concern for her children’s well-being in the aftermath of the crash. Bhavika criticized Air India for what she perceives as a lack of support and transparency in addressing the aftermath of the tragedy.

In addition to seeking justice for her own family, Bhavika called for stricter measures against Air India, proposing a ban on their flights. She disclosed plans to travel to India with her children for the anniversary and religious ceremonies, reflecting on the lasting impact of the crash on her family.

Meanwhile, other families of British victims also recounted their harrowing experiences and frustrations with the handling of the investigation. Calls for an independent inquiry and greater transparency have been made by advocates representing the families of the victims, as they seek answers and accountability for the tragedy.
