A couple has made the decision to permanently relocate from the United Kingdom to Bali in order to provide a different upbringing for their children in a house that lacks windows or doors. Lucy Argent and her spouse, Paul, shared that while they enjoyed their life in the UK, they desired a more enriching experience for their kids and felt trapped in a monotonous routine.
Lucy, aged 41, and Paul, aged 36, have transformed their property in Cambridgeshire into an Airbnb rental and have settled into a modest dwelling in Bali with their three children: seven-year-old Amaya, six-year-old Roo, and four-year-old Lela.
Expressing contentment with their new lifestyle, the couple expressed that they have no intentions of returning to their homeland, even if it means living without conventional walls. Lucy, a former owner of beauty salons, and Paul, who worked as a builder, previously enjoyed a comfortable life in the UK with a beautiful home and successful careers. However, they felt unfulfilled and sought a change from the mundane routine.
“We have completely embraced the outdoor lifestyle in Bali. We hardly watch TV anymore, and the pleasant weather encourages us to be more active. Living costs are significantly lower here, and we have the freedom to avoid traditional 9-5 work hours. Our children are flourishing in this environment,” Lucy shared.
Lucy, who relocated to Bali two years ago, has been sharing glimpses of their unconventional lifestyle on TikTok, amassing a following of over 100,000 users. One of her recent posts garnered over half a million views, showcasing their unique open-air home in Bali.
Their current residence features a swimming pool and garden, with the living room mostly open to the outdoors, offering a social atmosphere that the family appreciates. Despite the absence of windows or doors, the house is equipped with air conditioning and fans for comfort, and they use incense to deter mosquitoes. Their bedroom boasts a traditional tall ceiling, adding a touch of uniqueness, and their bathroom is also located outdoors but maintains privacy.
Reflecting on their transition, Lucy remarked, “Initially, the unconventional living arrangement in Bali was unfamiliar to us. However, after more than a year here, it has become our new normal. If we have the opportunity to construct our own villa in the future, we would opt for a similar design with open living spaces and a connection to the outdoors, as it suits family life perfectly.”
The couple has found joy in the simplicity of their new lifestyle and expressed a preference for a traditional and family-friendly living environment over a modern aesthetic.
