“Trump Warns Netanyahu: Israel May Fight Alone Against Iran”

Must read

US President Donald Trump has once again issued a strong warning to his longstanding ally, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu. Trump reportedly contacted Netanyahu, cautioning that Israel might end up fighting alone if it decides to re-enter the conflict with Iran.

Tensions in the Middle East have escalated since February 28, when the US and Israel launched coordinated attacks on Iran, leading to a series of retaliatory strikes in the region. Iran retaliated by targeting various locations and disrupting the trade route through the Strait of Hormuz, causing disruptions in global markets.

In an interview with Axios published on Monday, June 8, Trump explicitly advised Netanyahu to proceed with caution, hinting that Israel might stand alone in the near future. This warning came after Israel’s defiance of Trump’s orders not to engage in further strikes on Iran, resulting from Iran’s missile attacks on Sunday, marking a significant escalation since a brief ceasefire in April.

Despite Trump’s initial directives, Israel retaliated against Iran. However, Trump’s recent threat seems to have made an impact. Netanyahu announced on Monday that Israel would refrain from attacking Iran and Hezbollah in Lebanon, at least for the time being.

In a televised speech, Netanyahu expressed that Iran attempted to impose an unacceptable new dynamic, leading Israel to target the Iranian regime, resulting in a halt to further attacks from Iran. Netanyahu warned that any future strikes from Iran would face severe retaliation as Israel has the right to self-defense.

The ongoing tensions between Trump and Netanyahu have been evident, with Trump consistently cautioning Netanyahu against disregarding his authority. According to the Financial Times, Trump emphasized his control over decision-making processes, particularly concerning a long-term peace agreement with Iran.

Recently, Trump informed Fox News that he had instructed Netanyahu to refrain from retaliating against Iran, a directive that Netanyahu chose to ignore. Trump’s frustration was further evidenced when he reportedly criticized Netanyahu’s actions, emphasizing the negative repercussions on Israel’s image.
