One individual was taken into custody following the discovery of a Nazi flag and a suspicious canister inside a vehicle in the United States. Authorities are currently examining the canister, which was found near the Islamic Center of San Diego in Clairemont on Thursday, June 18. A bomb squad quickly responded to the scene.
San Diego police officers, who were already present at the Islamic Center, spotted the vehicle at approximately 11:40 am. Subsequently, the officers stopped the vehicle, detained the driver, and uncovered the Nazi flag along with the suspicious canister.
Upon discovery, officers called in the Metro Arson Strike Team to assess the suspicious item. The Joint Terrorism Task Force was promptly notified and is collaborating with the San Diego Police Department on the investigation.
Authorities have assured that there is no immediate threat to the center, and the inquiry is ongoing. As a precautionary measure, residents in the vicinity were advised to stay indoors, while nearby establishments were evacuated.
In a statement on social media, the San Diego Police Department stated, “No explosive materials were found, and there are currently no active threats to the Islamic Center of San Diego or the surrounding area. The affected areas will remain closed for further investigation, causing potential disruptions for several hours. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this ongoing investigation.”
