Speculation among UFC enthusiasts suggests Conor McGregor sustained an injury prior to his bout with Max Holloway.
McGregor’s return to the UFC at UFC 329 came to an abrupt end after only 69 seconds due to a suspected knee injury, possibly involving torn ligaments. Although McGregor exited the ring without making a statement, fans quickly began circulating theories suggesting his injury predated the fight.
One fan expressed, “Conor was already injured well before the event, and he fought through it, fully aware that he might disappoint his loyal fans and the MMA community. This is unacceptable, and UFC fans deserve an immediate explanation, with McGregor possibly considering retirement at this point.”
Another observer added, “Conor McGregor appeared to be limping even before stepping into the octagon. His demeanor lacked confidence and focus. It seems plausible that he sustained an injury before the fight.” A third fan remarked, “It seems evident that Conor was carrying an injury when he entered the cage. Athletes rarely return the same after such setbacks, but he remains a legend.”
A different viewpoint surfaced with a comment, “Rumors circulated that Conor McGregor was injured when he missed the initial Embedded episode, leading to speculation about the fight’s potential cancellation. Was McGregor already injured then?”
However, McGregor took to social media to assert that he was injury-free before the fight began. He stated, “I suffered unexpected damage. My head gasket is shot. I didn’t have any pre-existing injuries entering the fight. I was actively performing kicks, including planting and jumping, throughout training and right before the fight backstage. This situation blindsided me, and I’m in a dark place. It feels like hell.”
As McGregor exited the cage to boos, Holloway defended him, saying, “Let’s give a round of applause for Conor, an absolute warrior. Fans can anticipate a Holloway vs. McGregor trilogy. Let’s make that happen for the fans. It is what it is. We need to revisit this once more. I was looking forward to this fight. I worked hard to reach 170 lbs and face him. It’s disappointing for it to end like this.”
