Shark Attack Near Coogee Beach Leaves Woman Critical

Must read

A woman was attacked by a shark near Coogee Beach in Sydney, Australia, prompting the sounding of a shark alarm. The victim, in her 30s, sustained severe injuries to her arm and leg and was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition.

The incident occurred just before 11:15 am on Saturday, June 13, when emergency services responded to reports of the shark attack. Witnesses described a lifeguard on a surfboard rushing to assist the woman upon hearing screams and spotting the shark’s fins.

Members of the public helped pull the injured swimmer from the water, providing initial first aid before the arrival of emergency services. The police administered further aid on-site before the woman was airlifted to the hospital by helicopter.

As a precaution, nearby beaches such as Coogee, Clovelly, and Bronte were closed following the incident. This shark attack comes after a previous incident involving a 12-year-old boy named Nico Antic, who tragically lost his life to a shark attack in the same area earlier this year. Subsequent shark sightings have led to heightened caution along the coast.
