Namibian Politician Drops Controversial Name

Must read

A political figure in Namibia named Adolf Hitler Uunona has decided to drop his controversial middle name before an upcoming local election. The 69-year-old district administrator made the decision to remove the name from his passport in order to enhance his public image, as reported by The Namibian.

Adolf Hitler Uunona, who represents the SWAPO party in the Ompundja constituency, emerged victorious in the 2020 election with an overwhelming 85% of the vote. Despite sharing a name with the notorious historical figure, Uunona is known for his activism against apartheid and is highly respected within the local community.

Addressing the media attention he received in 2020, Uunona clarified that while his father gave him the name Adolf Hitler, it does not reflect his own character. Namibia, formerly known as German South West Africa, was once under German colonial rule from 1884 to 1915, leading to the retention of German names and locations in certain regions of the country.
