Facebook users faced difficulties accessing their accounts today due to a significant outage affecting various Meta services. The outage also impacted Messenger and Instagram, with many users encountering error messages when trying to use the platforms. Users worldwide, including those in the UK, reported issues accessing Meta’s apps and websites.

Meta has since resolved the outage across its services, including Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger. However, the company mentioned that it may take some time for all accounts to return to normal functionality. The number of users reporting problems with Instagram and Facebook has significantly decreased in the evening.

Andy Stone, Meta’s Communications Chief, reassured users that the apps are gradually returning to normal, although full restoration may still take some time. Despite the improvements, some Meta services like Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger remained inaccessible to certain users. Meta’s communication chief, Andy Stone, acknowledged the ongoing issues and assured users that they are actively addressing the situation.

In response to the disruptions, a message on Meta’s service disruption site informed users about the high disruptions affecting the Messenger Platform and the ongoing investigation by their engineering teams. Some users expressed concerns about potential account compromises due to unexpected logouts on Instagram and Facebook.

Reports from Downdetector indicated over 17,000 Facebook users encountering issues earlier, with a peak in reports around 2:50 pm UK time. Users took to various platforms to share their experiences, with some relieved to regain access to their accounts after facing login issues. Discussions on platforms like Reddit highlighted the widespread impact of the outage, with users globally experiencing similar challenges accessing Meta services.

As the situation unfolds, Meta continues to address the issues affecting Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger, aiming to restore full functionality to all users.
