Four individuals implicated in a probe involving the creation of explosives and firearms in London, Ontario now confront 19 additional accusations, as per legal records submitted on Tuesday. Jerry Tong, Zekun (Alex) Wang, Fei (Frank) Han, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji were initially charged in January. They were all either students or recent graduates of Western University, with the three men having backgrounds in the engineering department.
The updated list of allegations lodged with the Ontario Court of Justice raises the total to 31 distinct charges. Some of the charges are collective counts against all four suspects, while others are specific to individual defendants.
The fresh charges encompass ownership of five particular explosive materials, possession of stolen items, and accessing computer data related to manufacturing firearms.
The extensive investigation traces back to January 24th when law enforcement responded to an overnight trespassing incident at Western following the entry of two men into one of the university’s engineering structures. One person was apprehended just outside the building. Subsequent investigations led the authorities to a residence in the nearby University Heights neighborhood, where the other three suspects were detained.
Law enforcement conducted a thorough search of the dwelling at 212 Chesham Place, where Wang, Han, and Ji resided, in addition to two other residences in Orléans, a suburb of Ottawa, and Gatineau, Quebec.
Initially, when arrested, the quartet faced multiple firearms charges, including the production of a handgun and possession of a loaded restricted handgun. New accusations against Tong, Wang, and Ji involve ownership of magazines and suppression devices, as well as possession of another banned firearm. Tong and Wang are additionally accused of handling and carelessly storing a rifle.
Tong, who bears the brunt of the charges, has further counts linked to incidents in other cities. Charges against him include storing rifles at a residence in Orleans, fabricating a restricted firearm in Ottawa, and possessing a rifle at an unauthorized location in Quebec.
Court documents reveal that Tong possessed a firearms license, but some of the charges against him are related to possessing a firearm at an unapproved location not indicated on his license.
Tong and Wang also face fresh allegations tied to events that transpired months before their arrest. Wang is now accused of manufacturing a weapon between September 1, 2025, and January 24, 2026, whereas the duo is charged with breaking into a Western building on October 9, 2025.
Moreover, court records show that Tong, Wang, Han, and Ji face a new set of charges for possessing explosive materials, specifically pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), trinitrotoluene (TNT), dinitrophenol (DNP), hexamethylene triperoxide diamine (HMTD), and lead azide.
Additionally, all four face a fresh accusation of possessing property from Western University valued at less than $5,000. Wang also faces a solo charge of accessing computer data related to firearms or prohibited devices, specifically design files usable with a 3D printer, metal milling machine, or similar system for manufacturing a device.
In total, Tong faces 28 charges, Wang faces 20, Han faces 11, and Ji faces 13. The legal proceedings are ongoing, with two individuals out on bail and two remaining in custody.
Tong did not seek bail and is still in custody. Han’s bail request was denied in February, returning him to custody. Wang was granted bail in March under strict conditions, including 24-hour house arrest and continuous supervision from two sureties who each posted $200,000. Ji is also out on bail without any sureties.
