Former Harrods PR Exec Among Five Dead in Patagonia Blizzard

Must read

Five individuals, including a former Harrods employee and PR professional from Britain, tragically lost their lives in a severe blizzard while hiking in Patagonia. Among the deceased was Victoria Bond, a woman in her 30s, who perished in the Torres del Paine nature reserve in Chile during adverse weather conditions equivalent to a Category 3 hurricane. The group of nine tourists went missing due to heavy rainfall and strong winds, leading to a fatal outcome for Victoria, two Mexican nationals, and two German citizens on Monday. A search team of over 20 individuals was dispatched to locate the missing hikers, who were reported to have strayed near the Los Perros camp in the park, a remote area accessible only by a four-to five-hour trek from the nearest vehicle point.

Victoria Bond was undertaking the Paine Massif Circuit, also known as the O Circuit, when the group encountered the blizzard. She had a successful career in PR, working for prominent brands and in the travel industry. Victoria had previously served as a PR manager for Visit Isles of Scilly in Cornwall and was actively involved in the local Roseland Festival for over six years, specializing in travel and lifestyle communications, as outlined in her LinkedIn profile. Before that, she had experience in the luxury fashion sector, working as a fine jewelry and watch PR executive at Harrods and as a freelance fashion assistant at Conde Nast, contributing to renowned publications like Vogue China, GQ, Italian Vanity Fair, and Vogue Bambino.

Additionally, Victoria had held positions as a luxury consulting director at a PR firm and as a senior account director at another public relations agency. Her social media accounts showcased her extensive travels worldwide, including recent trips to Athens, where she enjoyed a catamaran experience, as well as visits to Barbados and Costa Rica. The tragic incident prompted Chilean president Gabriel Boric to offer condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased individuals of Mexican, German, and British nationality. The two Mexican victims were identified as Cristina Calvillo Tovar and Julian Garcia Pimentel, while the German victims were named Nadine Lichey and Andreas Von Pein.

An FCDO Spokesperson expressed support for the family of the deceased British woman and confirmed ongoing communication with local authorities regarding the incident.
