“EE Launches Enhanced Scam Guard Service to Combat Rising Cyber Scams”

Must read

The increase in fraudulent activities is well-known, with a significant number of individuals still falling victim to scams. Recent data indicates that substantial amounts of money are lost daily in the UK, as cybercriminals continuously modify their strategies to deceive individuals into divulging sensitive information. To combat this trend, EE has unveiled an enhanced version of its Scam Guard service, aimed at thwarting more attacks aimed at mobile phones.

Available to all EE pay-monthly mobile subscribers for £2 per month, this updated service may be beneficial for those anxious about potential scams.

While it might seem like an added expense on top of existing bills, EE is confident that it delivers significantly enhanced protection for its users.

Since its inception in 2024, Scam Guard has already thwarted 169 million scam and spam attempts, according to EE.

Over the next year, with the upgraded Scam Guard version, EE anticipates that the service will prevent at least double the number of scams.

So, what does the new service offer and what features are included?

At the core of the enhanced Scam Guard is AI Triple-Lock Protection, a trio of digital security elements powered by Norton’s Genie AI engine, designed to ensure customer safety.

These features consist of Safe Email, which delivers continuous proactive scam protection for email accounts. Additionally, there is Safe SMS, which utilizes advanced AI to identify intricate scams in text messages, providing customers with real-time protection whenever they check their messages. Moreover, Safe Web is integrated to shield customers from online scams while shopping or browsing, preemptively blocking malicious websites to prevent harm.

EE’s upgraded Scam Guard also introduces Scam Assistant, enabling customers to submit screenshots of texts, emails, websites, social media messages, or QR codes to promptly receive guidance on their safety. Furthermore, Social Media Monitoring and Dark Web Monitoring are implemented to monitor suspicious activities across a customer’s online presence, issuing timely notifications for immediate action.

Commenting on the enhancement, Malcolm Cubitt, Director of Product, Mobile at EE, stated: “Fraud rates in the UK are at an all-time high, with AI making scams more convincing and harder to detect. As these threats evolve, we continue to adapt as the UK’s premier network—constantly exploring new and innovative methods to safeguard and assist our customers. This involves spearheading industry partnerships, investing in network-level controls, and employing a dedicated team of security professionals. With our enhanced Scam Guard service, we are now offering customers an elevated level of cybersecurity protection.”
