A tragic incident occurred at Luoyangzhen Station in Kunming, China, where a train collided with a group of maintenance workers, resulting in the death of 11 individuals and injuring two others. The accident took place early on Thursday as test train No. 55537, used for seismic equipment checks, struck the workers while navigating a curved section of the railway track.

Following the collision, railway and local authorities promptly initiated emergency rescue operations, transporting the injured workers to a nearby hospital for medical attention. The station has since resumed regular services, with Kunming’s railway authority extending condolences to the families of the victims through social media. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the tragic incident.

China boasts the world’s largest rail network, spanning over 100,000 miles. This recent rail crash is the deadliest in China in over a decade, surpassing a previous incident in 2021 where nine individuals lost their lives in a similar accident on the Lanzhou-Xinjiang railway in Gansu province.
