Benefit Payments to be Issued Early for May Bank Holidays

Must read

Some benefit payments, including Universal Credit, will be issued earlier next week due to the upcoming May bank holiday on Monday, May 4. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) does not process payments on bank holidays, so beneficiaries expecting payments on May 4 will receive them on Friday, May 1 instead.

Likewise, for the bank holiday on May 25, payments will be made in advance on Friday, May 22 for those scheduled for that date. While receiving payments early may result in a longer wait until the next payment, the amount received will remain unchanged unless personal circumstances have altered. This adjustment will also affect certain HMRC benefits, such as Child Benefit.

The frequency of benefit payments varies depending on the type of benefit claimed. For instance, Universal Credit is paid on a fixed day each month, while Child Benefit is typically paid every four weeks on Mondays or Tuesdays. Notably, Universal Credit has replaced several other benefits like Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, and others.

If there are concerns about missing payments, beneficiaries are advised to first check their bank accounts and then contact the relevant helpline if the payment does not reflect. Helplines may be closed on bank holidays, necessitating contact on the following working day.

Benefit payment schedules for Universal Credit, Child Benefit, Jobseeker’s Allowance, Income Support, Incapacity Benefit, and Employment and Support Allowance can be found below.
