“Airlines Offer Essential Travel Tips for Busy May Holidays”

Must read

With the upcoming May school holiday season, airlines like Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2, and TUI are offering essential tips for travelers heading abroad. Airports are anticipated to be crowded, and fluctuating jet fuel prices raise concerns about potential delays and last-minute changes in schedules.

While the general airport rules have mostly stayed consistent, each airline has its own set of requirements for different passenger categories. For instance, Ryanair suggests arriving at least two hours before departure time to allow for check-in, bag drop, and security procedures. Additionally, passengers must be at the boarding gate at least 30 minutes prior to departure.

Even if you’ve made your booking through an online travel agency, it’s still necessary to verify your reservation at the airport and arrive at least two hours early. On the other hand, easyJet advises passengers to consider potential traffic, train delays, and queues during peak periods like school holidays.

Jet2 recommends arriving at the airport at least two hours before the scheduled departure, as check-in desks usually open around two-and-a-half hours before flight times. It’s crucial to note that check-in desks close 40 minutes before departure, and travelers are encouraged to check for any updates on delays or disruptions at least 12 hours before flying.

TUI’s standard check-in typically opens 2.5 hours before short- and mid-haul flights, while for long-haul flights, check-in can start 3.5 hours before departure. Passengers flying with hand luggage only and who have completed online check-in can proceed directly to security upon arriving at the airport.

For group bookings with TUI, only one member needs to visit the bag drop counter with all necessary documents and luggage. Across all airlines, it’s recommended to keep travel documents easily accessible, check for flight updates online before heading to the airport, and be prepared for longer queues during busy travel periods such as the May half-term.
