Must read

Canadian striker Promise David is set to make his way to the Premier League after Brighton & Hove Albion confirmed the signing on a season-long loan from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium. The agreement includes an obligation to purchase David for a reported fee of $29.7 million US, pending the fulfillment of certain criteria.

Union Saint-Gilloise disclosed that David will transition to the Premier League starting from the upcoming season, marking a record transfer fee for the Belgian club. The 25-year-old forward joins Brighton following a successful stint at Union, where he netted 41 goals in 82 matches and contributed to the club clinching its first league title in 90 years back in 2025. He extended his contract with the team through June 2029 last year.

Having represented Canada at the recent World Cup, David managed to score a goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. He has accumulated four goals in 14 appearances for the Canadian senior national team. Born in Brampton, Ontario, to Nigerian parents, David initially played for Nigeria’s under-23 team before switching allegiance to Canada in 2025.

Brighton marks the latest chapter in David’s diverse career, which has seen him compete professionally in Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before landing in Belgium in July 2024. Brighton’s Sporting Director, Mike Cave, expressed enthusiasm about David’s signing, highlighting his goal-scoring prowess, physical attributes, international experience, and European competition background. The club, which has maintained a presence in the English top flight for nine consecutive seasons, secured an eighth-place finish in the Premier League last season.
