Shocking video footage captures a frightening incident in New York City’s Times Square shortly after the New York Knicks’ victory parade. The video, believed to be from a surveillance camera positioned above the square, shows tourists going about their day before five loud gunshots echo through the area.
In response to the gunshots, the crowd quickly disperses, with people seen running towards buildings and around corners to escape the bustling square. Amidst the chaos, screams and cries can be heard as pedestrians navigate the scene.
Some individuals, gripped by fear, dash into the road where traffic continues along Seventh Avenue, with drivers cautiously maneuvering through the fleeing crowd. Others seem bewildered, standing unsure in the middle of the road or square, uncertain of which direction to go.
Shortly after the incident, the once-packed tourist hotspot empties out, leaving only a small group of individuals lingering at the edges of the central plaza, according to reports from the Express.
The event occurred at 3:37 pm on Thursday, as confirmed by a spokesperson from the New York Police Department speaking to Daily Express US. Police were alerted to shots fired near 43rd St. and Seventh Avenue. An individual was seen discharging a firearm into the crowd, leading to his arrest. A firearm was recovered at the scene, though its connection to the suspect remained unclear.
No injuries were reported, and the NYPD has initiated an investigation into the matter. Additional ground-level footage captures a witness describing the chaotic scene in Times Square, recounting a brawl in the crowd before gunshots rang out directly in front of him. Bystanders are shown fleeing the scene as the witness captures the unfolding turmoil, confirming that a shooting had occurred.
