Lidl is extending its self-scanning trial, Lidl & Go, to an additional 37 stores in the UK. This feature allows customers to scan items using the Lidl Plus app on their smartphones while shopping, streamlining the checkout process by already having items scanned.
The rollout will reach shoppers in Scotland, the South East, and the wider South of England in July. The trial follows successful testing at seven initial stores including Airdrie, Cardiff, Epsom, Glenrothes, Kingston, Guilford, and Eastleigh.
Louise Weise, Chief Customer Officer at Lidl GB, expressed positive feedback from customers on the convenience and control Lidl & Go offers. This expansion aims to cater to more customers and incorporate feedback for further improvements.
Additionally, Lidl recently revamped its loyalty scheme, Lidl Plus, where users earn one point for every £1 spent in-store. These points can be redeemed for free products or discounts on purchases, replacing previous monthly spending threshold rewards. While this new system offers more flexibility, some customers have raised concerns about potentially needing to spend more to earn rewards.
According to a Lidl spokesperson, users may earn more than one point per £1 through various promotions like Rewards of the Week, double points, triple points, or free points on selected products.
