Louise Ware-Armstrong, a lifestyle and travel vlogger, detailed her monthly expenses in a TikTok video. While most costs aligned with her expectations, she highlighted the notably expensive nature of phone services in Canada.
In the video that garnered over 11,000 likes, she emphasized, “One of the most costly bills in Canada is your phone plan,” pointing out the challenge of finding affordable options. Louise disclosed that her combined monthly expenses for mobile phone, home internet, and TV totaled around 400 Canadian dollars (£215).
She further explained, “For my phone, internet, and TV, I pay around $400 a month, which is quite high.” This revelation sparked discussions among viewers who echoed the sentiments on the steep cost of living in Canada.
According to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), while mobile prices have seen some reduction, Canada remains among the costlier markets for wireless services globally.
WhistleOut, a price comparison platform, stated that the average Canadian mobile phone bill stands at around CA$64 (£34) per month, significantly higher than in the UK. Industry analyses consistently position Canada as one of the pricier countries for mobile services, attributing it to a less competitive market and increased infrastructure expenses.
The content creator detailed her overall monthly budget post-relocation, highlighting a rent of 1,650 Canadian dollars for a two-bedroom residence, in addition to separate utility costs. However, it was the steep charges for phone and internet services that struck her the most, labeling it as one of the major financial surprises of moving abroad.
