A tragic incident unfolded as a bungee jumper, Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, 21, survived momentarily after falling from a 130ft bridge in Limeira, Sao Paulo state, Brazil. Shockingly, the staff allegedly neglected to secure her to a safety rope before she was tossed from the Skeleton bridge. Despite the lack of immediate fatality, Maria succumbed to her injuries later.
A nurse, Rayza Dias, who rushed to assist Maria, revealed that the young woman was still alive with faint signs of life. Attempting to provide aid, Rayza even conversed with Maria in a bid to keep her spirits up. The individuals responsible for the incident reportedly changed clothes and attempted to flee the scene but were apprehended shortly after by authorities.
The trio involved, Luis Felipe Feliciano Egoroff, Vitor de Freitas Goncalves, and Maicon Fernandes Cintra, faced charges of homicide with implied malice. In a surprising turn of events, they claimed to have no recollection of who was tasked with securing the rope for Maria’s bungee jump. Additional arrests were made, with Luis Felipe stating that safety checks were conducted collectively, evading responsibility for the final inspection.
Their legal representative, Rafael Gomes dos Santos, emphasized their state of shock and inability to comprehend the tragic outcome given their extensive experience in the field. Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing into the unauthorized bungee jumping activities conducted from the bridge.
Prior to the fatal incident, Maria had expressed excitement on social media about the impending jump. Brazilian MP Andrea Dantas Levy highlighted the lack of authorization for the bungee jumping operations at the bridge. The quest for answers and accountability in this distressing event continues as the investigation unfolds.
