Alpine’s Appeal Leads to Gasly Reinstated on Podium

Must read

Isack Hadjar loses his first Red Bull podium finish post-Monaco Grand Prix as Alpine’s appeal results in Pierre Gasly being reinstated in third place. Gasly, penalized during the race for pit lane speed limit violations, argued that he had activated his speed limiter in time. Alpine’s appeal, based on new evidence of timing inaccuracies, was successful, leading to Gasly’s penalties being overturned.

Following a hearing in Barcelona, where Formula One Management provided evidence of timing errors, Gasly’s third-place finish was restored. Alpine expressed gratitude for the transparent process and is now focused on the upcoming Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.

Stewards explained that Gasly did not exceed the pit lane speed limit and rescinded his penalties. While Gasly benefited from the appeal, other drivers penalized for the same reason during the Monaco race will maintain their penalties, as served penalties cannot be appealed retroactively.

The stewards clarified that they cannot reverse served penalties and noted the absence of other teams petitioning for a review within the permitted timeframe. The outcome highlights the importance of accurate timing systems in Formula One races to ensure fair competition.
