US traveler Arab Ginnett posted on the Facebook group “Torres del Paine, Chile,” frequented by international visitors seeking information on park excursions, alerting about the perilous situation of a group that included Victoria Bond from Cornwall. Despite extensive search efforts, all five individuals, comprising two Mexicans and two Germans, lost their lives.
Ginnett’s message from the Los Perros camp detailed the deteriorating weather conditions, with strong winds reaching 120mph, trapping people on the John Gardner pass. Rescue teams were dispatched to locate the missing individuals, with fears of potential fatalities due to the treacherous circumstances.
In response to the plea for help, individuals expressed their support and concerns, acknowledging the unpredictability of the climate in Torres del Paine.
