Must read

An injured man was observed carrying his late wife’s casket during her funeral following their son’s arrest for murder.

Stella Gallagher, aged 59, and her husband Brian, aged 63, were both hospitalized with stab injuries on November 17. Tragically, Stella, a chemical engineer with a long tenure at Eli Lilly in Cork, Ireland, succumbed to her injuries.

Brian, who also sustained severe injuries in the incident and underwent emergency surgery, was discharged and attended his wife’s funeral at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Ballinlough. He was one of the pallbearers for Stella, who was laid to rest at St Michael’s Cemetery in Blackrock.

Their son, David Gallagher, faced charges of murdering his mother at the family residence and assaulting his father.

During the funeral service, Brian’s brother Alan reminisced about Stella’s generous nature and culinary skills. He described her as a passionate baker who delighted in sharing her creations and homegrown produce with others.

Activities like singing, gardening, and baking brought immense joy to Stella, according to reports from RTE. Alan expressed gratitude for having had the privilege of knowing and loving Stella.

Details provided by Dt Sgt Niall Hayes of Blackrock Garda Station outlined the arrest and charging of the couple’s son, with plans to seek remand in custody at Cork District Court.

Legal aid was requested for the unemployed defendant, David Gallagher, and was approved by Judge John King. Medical and psychiatric assessments were also ordered for Gallagher upon his arrival in Cork Prison.

The judge further mandated that Gallagher receive necessary medical attention while in custody, with a scheduled appearance at Cork District Court via video link set for Wednesday.
