“Tragic Collision Claims Five Young Lives in Co Louth”

Students were deeply shocked when five individuals lost their lives in a tragic two-vehicle collision in Co Louth.

Among the victims was teacher Chloe McGee, 23, who perished in the accident near Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland, on Saturday night. O Fiaich College principal Padraig McGovern expressed the profound impact of the loss, stating that her absence at school was a tremendous shock.

Principal McGovern, speaking on BBC’s Good Morning Ulster, highlighted the challenge of conveying such tragic news to young students who may struggle to comprehend the situation.

A total of five young individuals lost their lives in the incident. Apart from Chloe McGee, the victims included Shay Duffy, 21, Alan McCluskey, 23, Dylan Commins, 23, and Chloe Hipson, 21.

Another individual in their 20s who was in the vehicle is receiving treatment in the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Irish authorities described the crash as “shocking and devastating,” with two other individuals sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.

The tragic incident involving a Golf and a Toyota Land Cruiser occurred on a road near Dundalk shortly after 9 pm. Two occupants from the other vehicle were taken to the hospital for treatment.

South Lanarkshire College, where Chloe Hipson studied, expressed deep sadness over her passing, praising her as a dedicated student. Amateur football teams in Lanarkshire also paid tribute to her, with North Motherwell FC planning to hold a minute’s silence in her honor.

An investigation has been initiated into the collision, with a call for information from the public. Superintendent Charlie Armstrong expressed condolences to the families of the victims, acknowledging the impact of the tragedy on local communities.

Superintendent Armstrong commended the professionalism of emergency responders and emphasized the profound effect of the incident on affected families and communities. He urged anyone with information to contact the investigation team at Dundalk Garda Station.

He also appealed for individuals who were in the area at the time of the incident to come forward with any relevant footage or information. Contact details for the investigation team were provided for anyone willing to assist in the inquiry.
