A survivor of a deadly storm, which claimed the life of Victoria Bond, has shared details of the harrowing experience during the treacherous blizzard. Victoria Bond, a 40-year-old PR professional known for her work with celebrities like Cheryl Tweedy and Annabelle Wallis, was on a hiking expedition in Patagonia, Chile when disaster struck.
Traversing through the Torres del Paine nature reserve, the group was engulfed by a severe 120mph snowstorm, equivalent to a Category 3 hurricane. Despite their efforts to combat the fierce winds and heavy snowfall, nine tourists went missing initially. Tragically, five of them, including two Mexicans, two Germans, and Victoria, did not survive.
Fellow hiker Chris Aldridge, who was with Victoria during the calamity, recounted their final moments, expressing his belief that everyone would perish as they uncontrollably descended the mountain at high speeds.
In an interview with the Mail Online, Chris revealed that they were aware of the windy conditions but were unprepared for the extreme severity they encountered on their way down. The icy terrain and strong winds made it perilous for the group, with some members sliding down the mountain uncontrollably due to the treacherous conditions.
Upon returning to their camp, they discovered several group members had sustained serious injuries, battling hypothermia and frostbite. Realizing that not everyone had made it back, the group, lacking assistance from absent park rangers, embarked on a rescue mission, sadly too late for Victoria.
CONAF, responsible for Chile’s national parks, expressed deep regret over the tragedy and extended condolences to the families affected. They pledged to review safety and communication protocols in the park to enhance emergency response capabilities.
Visit Isles of Scilly, where Victoria previously worked, mourned the loss of their beloved friend, describing her as charismatic with a zest for life. Her vibrant personality, enthusiasm, and infectious laughter were cherished by all who knew her, leaving a significant void with her untimely passing.
