A tragic incident occurred when a baker, Zoe Letsiou, aged 49, lost her life due to a fatal accident involving a bread-making machine at her bakery in Larissa, Greece. Reports suggest that while cleaning the machine, her scarf became entangled in the rollers, leading to strangulation as the machine continued operating. Emergency services were alerted when customers noticed her absence from the shop, but despite paramedics’ efforts, Zoe could not be revived and was declared deceased at the scene.
Witnesses, including Zoe’s brother-in-law and a fellow baker, confirmed that the accident occurred during machine cleaning, resulting in the scarf getting caught and causing the tragic outcome. The community of Damasi, where Zoe resided, mourned her loss with heartfelt tributes and messages of condolence for her family.
In a separate incident, a worker named Paul Clarke, aged 40, was fatally crushed by a reversing lorry at a pasty-making factory in Callington, Cornwall. The incident took place while Paul was engaged in moving strip curtains in the loading bay. CCTV footage captured the tragic moment, leading to his transportation to Derriford Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Following investigations, the owner of the factory was fined for breaching health and safety regulations, as it was revealed that risks associated with the strip curtains had not been properly assessed. The lack of a safe procedure for moving the curtains during lorry maneuvers was also highlighted, emphasizing the need for improved safety measures in the workplace.
