A 61-year-old man from Sweden has been sentenced to four years and five months in prison for coercing his wife into engaging in sexual activities with over 120 men. The man, whose identity remains undisclosed, was found guilty of various crimes, including aggravated pimping, attempted rape, assault, and making unlawful threats, after a trial held in the Angermanland area of northern Sweden.
During the trial at the district court in Harnosand, it was revealed that the man manipulated his wife by providing her with drugs and keeping her isolated at their secluded farm near Kramfors in Vasternorrland County. Additionally, he used surveillance cameras on the property to document sexual encounters and threatened her with violence, such as threatening to kill her, set her on fire, or harm her physically.
Earlier this year, prosecutors stated that the man was suspected of facilitating his wife’s involvement in sexual activities with at least 120 men, although only 29 individuals were charged with purchasing sexual services. Out of the charged individuals, 28 were convicted of a total of 56 offenses related to this case. Two were sentenced to imprisonment, while the others received suspended sentences or probation.
The prosecutors revealed that men from various parts of the country visited the farm to engage in sexual activities with the victim in 2022. The woman’s ordeal came to an end when she reported her husband to the authorities in October 2025, leading to his arrest and subsequent custody.
Comparisons have been drawn between this case and that of Dominique Pelicot in France, who subjected his then-wife to similar traumatic experiences over a prolonged period.
Following a court hearing that concluded in late May, the Swedish man was acquitted of eight counts of rape and three counts of attempted rape. The court cited the inability to establish involuntary participation in seven instances and uncertainty about the nature of sexual acts in one case.
Judge Johan Ahlberg stated that the man coerced his wife into performing sexual acts, broadcasting them online, and attempting to involve others in these activities through manipulation and inappropriate language.
In addition to the prison term, the man was ordered to pay 200,000 kronor (£15,900) in damages to his wife, despite his denial of any wrongdoing, claiming he was arranging consensual encounters.
Under Swedish law, the purchase and procurement of sex are illegal, while the selling of sex by sex workers is not criminalized, as they are regarded as exploited victims.
